We Calculated How Many Calories Are in The Rock’s Power Breakfast

If we know one thing about Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, it’s that he can eat. We’ve seen him power through cheat day meals that would make mere mortals quiver. We’ve seen the huge plates of sushi, burgers and cookies. Hell, we’ve even tried them for ourselves.

What we’ve seen less of, however, is the diet that powers The Rock the rest of the time. That powerhouse physique can’t be powered on chicken and broccoli, can it? Well, a recent Instagram post by the man himself gave us a sneak peek inside of what The Rock is cooking on the daily.

So let us paint a picture for you. Imagine that The Rock wakes up, hits the Iron Paradise and completes a slugfest of a workout. He then sits down for what he calls his ‘power breakfast’. To you or me that may be eggs, some avocado and maybe a little halloumi on the side, but to The Rock a power breakfast consists of flank steak, eggs, peppers, mushrooms, onions and short-grain brown rice.

Now, while that sounds like a lot, we’ve crunched the numbers on Johnson’s breakfast feast, and he’s made some smart choices that will help him stay his inimitable combination of both swole and lean.

Let’s start with the steak. According to MyFitnessPal, a 40z portion of flank steak comes in at just 180 calories, so if you’re going to eat steak for breakfast then this is the way to do it. Flank steak is known to be a lean meat that has fewer calories and more protein than a ribeye or porterhouse, for example, so we can only commend The Rock on his choice there.

The Rock mixes his steak with eggs. Say he has three of those, that would equal around 255 calories. Again, so far, so low-cal.

And what of his choice of peppers, mushrooms and onions? All together, we think that would come to around like 160 calories, while short-grain brown rice should come in at around 150 calories.

All together that makes the whole meal a fairly modest 745 calories.

Now clearly, we haven’t sat down with The Rock and discussed the details of his power breakfast. Instead, we’ve looked at his post and input it into MyFitnessPal. If we’re honest, we have as much idea as you about the portion sizes or cooking methods used in the making of this meal.

We’re not claiming that these numbers are exact, but they do give you some idea of the kind of meal The Rock’s eating and the kind of calories he’s packing down.

What’s interesting is we did this for one of The Rock’s many cheat meals. It turned out that his combination of sushi and cookies came in at a staggering 7,764 calories.

His power breakfast comes in at just 10 per cent of that. So can we smell what The Rock is cooking? Probably something healthy on a weekday and then something more extravagant at the weekend, and that seems like a rule most of us can live by.
